The kind of preaching the Spirit will not empower

If we were to spotlight the greatest tragedy of the modern day church, it would not be that traditional churches are too churchy or that seeker-centered churches have too many cappuccino machines. How successful the devil has been in distracting us with toy figures while terrorists are sharpening their teeth on the church pulpit!

No, if we are to give a pulse on the greatest tragedy of the church today, I defer to Greg Heisler who says it better than I could:

[T]he Holy Spirit of God is confrontational, and his conviction is powerful. He will not empower nonconfrontational preaching that waters down the gospel, compromises the Word, and takes sin lightly. I believe we are grieving and quenching the Holy Spirit when we say less than what the Bible says in an effort not to offend anyone or more than the Bible says in order to impress everyone. The reality is that we are offending someone—the Holy Spirit—and he is not impressed!
