I Know He's There!

Have you ever had a child ask you, "If God is real, why can't I see Him?"? Of our four children, Atalie's faith has taken root at the youngest age. But a few days ago she was asking why God is real if she has never seen Him.

Audrey and Josiah piped in and started using presuppositional apologetics, giving her some pretty sterling defenses for the existence of God.

"Atalie, do you see wind?" asked Joe.

"Yea."

"No you don't," supported Audrey. "You see the results of wind but you don't see wind."

"Yea," said Joe, "and just like that we don't see God but we see what He does by like the trees and how He's helping us every day."

Last night I preached at a church plant in Schoolcraft and Circleslide, a solid and talented band, came in and led worship. As we sang, Atalie tugged on Kimberly's (my wife's) pant leg and said, "Mama, I know He's there and I'm singing for Him." A big smile was across her face.

This was no, "Say something Mommy wants to hear" moment but the joyful testimony of a little heart beginning to feel the witness of the Holy Spirit within her.

"The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God" (Rom 8:16).

"For there are three that testify: the Spirit and the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement. If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater; for the testimony of God is this, that He has testified concerning His Son" (1 John 5:7-9).
