And after it’s too late, people discover that self obsession is the fastest path to misery and destruction. It is the ultimate destruction because it is the opposite of worship, which is God-obsession.
Can you imagine what would happen if this fixation with how we appear to others became fixation with how God appears through us to others? If we channeled our obsession with what people think of us to what people think of God?
We would impact the world beyond recovery. There is nothing so contagious, so paradigm shifting, so transforming than a community of believers living to make the God who saved them famous!
But Satan would prefer you never hear stories like these. Instead he’d say, “The world is beyond hope. Don’t try to fix it. Just read your Bible, mind your own business, and go to church.”
That sounds good. But it is a devilish mission. It is a recipe for wasting your life.
God has no interest in you living to be a nice moral person, with a nice moral family, going to a nice moral church, doing your part in nice moral ministries, until you pass on in a nice moral way.
God’s has a plan so much better for you. Our suffering, hunger-stricken, truth-searching world has enough nice moral people making zero impact.
They make no impact because by itself, being nice does not help anyone. They are without the zeal, truth, and burning holiness of God in their chest. Frankly, they are spiritually emasculated.
God forbid that we become so self-obsessed that our gospel blade goes dull, our flame flickers out, and we enter and leave this world without doing so much as flicking a cue-tip against Satan’s kingdom, because we were too afraid to rustle a leaf. Because we were spending more time looking at our religious reflection in the window than letting others see God’s reflection through our lives.
Fellow believer if you will turn every gift, every sentence, every promotion, every thought, every relationship into an opportunity to make God famous, God is going to use you powerfully!
He is ready and willing.
The question is, “Are you?”
