Making Down Payments in Your Children...
Many have said we shouldn't "indoctrinate" our children. If "indoctrinate" means telling our kids to blindly believe something without giving them any reasons for it, or if it means spoon-feeding them what to think without teaching them how to think, the the advice is valid. But if that means don't teach them moral principles and right from wrong, that advice is as moronic as it is destructive.
Everything you teach your child today is a down payment on his or her future, because the decisions they make today have only tiny consequences, but as an adult the consequences are a thousand times bigger.
Help your son turn down porn today and you might save him from adultery as an adult. Teach your daughter to share her toys with her friend and she might give to the needy as a grown woman. Train your son to not strike his brother in anger and you might save him from murder tomorrow. Teach your kids how to work as a team on the playground and they might become expert team players in business some day.
